Our Mission:
The Story Behind ImpactSense
The inception of ImpactSense is rooted in a deeply personal experience. When founder Dr. Kevan Orvitz's father was diagnosed with dementia during the COVID-19 pandemic, the journey to a diagnosis was long and frustrating. After months of waiting for a specialized appointment, the final diagnosis was based solely on a highly subjective cognitive test—an approach that lacked precision. Confirmatory procedures, which would have been invasive, were not an option. It became painfully clear how inadequate our current tools are and how urgently better solutions are needed.

Driven by this need for change, Dr. Orvitz dove into research on the correlation between gait changes and cognitive decline. His findings pointed to a promising path forward. What began as a concept of using gait as a biomarker for neurological deterioration evolved into a robust research and development initiative. Partnering with the University of Waterloo, Dr. Orvitz’s vision became the foundation for the ImpactSense technology you see today.

ImpactSense was created to provide a more accessible, accurate, and non-invasive method for detecting early signs of cognitive decline, offering hope for better outcomes and improved care.
